I have always wanted to visit the southern states of Mexico, so a couple of buddies and I decided to take a week off and drive to Oaxaca. It was amazing. In just a week we managed to visit the cities of Oaxaca, San Jose del Pacifico, Mazunte, Ventanilla, Zipolite, Puerto Escondido, Zicatela, and Puebla. We went from the highest point of the mountain range “Sierra Madre del Sur” (San Jose), to the small beach towns on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. This trip had to be one of the most culinarily rich weeks ever. We tried absolutely everything Oaxaca is famous for: Mole, chocolate, tamales, chapulines (fried crickets), tlayudas, liches, aguachiles, coffee, tasajo, and of course MEZCAL!
